General Dwight D. Eisenhower Question: At the conclusion of the war, an American General requited the citizens of Dachau to tour the site to visibly witness the devastation. Who was the American General? Was it Eisenhower? Thank you. Harry W. Mazal OBE Responds: Although General Eisenhower did not visit Dachau upon its liberation, he did require that American soldiers visit the camp: http://www.scrapbookpages.com/DachauScrapbook/DachauLiberation/aftermath.html General Eisenhower did visit the Ohrdruf concentration camp: http://www.scrapbookpages.com/DachauScrapbook/DachauLiberation/Ohrdruf and required that the local populace visit the camp and become aware of the atrocities committed therein.
