On May 8, 1944, eight members of the BERCOVICI family, two of whom were children, tried to cross the Spanish border. Near Cier-de-Luchon, they were intercepted by a German patrol. The only two who escaped arrest and deportation were Nathan Bercovici and his oldest son, Claude. The youngest son, Roland, age 5, born in Paris on December 13, 1938, was deported with his mother, Alberte, on convoy 75 of May 30, 1944.
