IOM HUMANITARIAN EVACUATION STATISTICS
(Last updated: 15 June 1999)

Humanitarian evacuations by country of destination

As of 14 June 1999, IOM had evacuated 57,407 Kosovar Albanian refugees from the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) to a total of twenty countries in Europe and overseas. The largest number of Kosovar refugees were airlifted to the United States (7,477), Turkey (5,636), Canada (5,297), Austria (5,101) and Norway (4,953).

N.B: All figures refer to movements organized by IOM. The total number of refugees evacuated out of FYROM is higher as some evacuations have been arranged bilaterally without IOM involvement. For evacuation statistics including non-IOM airlifts visit UNHCR's Web site.

The IOM/UNHCR Humanitarian Evacuation Programme began on 6 April 1999.
